Les MZ exportées aux USA ont dû intégrer des équipements spécifiques, semble-t-il pour se conformer aux exigences réglementaires locales.

Il s'agit en particulier du contacteur de frein à disque avant et d'un regard pour contrôler l'usure de la garniture de la mâchoire de frein :

Le phare brillant était lui aussi spécifique.

Il semblerait que ces éléments aient été montés par l'importateur britannique avec des pièces (phare, feu arrière, clignotants) de marque "Lucas" (source : https://mz-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=37815 et https://www.britishbikebits.com/lucas-headlamp-assembly-mz-ts250 ).

Surprenant l'import d'un modèle GS aux E. U.
Les américains ont donc réussi à importer bon nombre de motos tout terrain (OSSA, BULTACO, MZ,....) bien avant nous aux autres français.

L'importateur aux USA était East Europe Import Export Inc., 440 Park Ave., New York, NY 10016


Il y a eu un litige en 1973 entre l'exportateur en RDA "Transportmaschinen Export-Import Corporation" et l'importateur aux USA, "East Europe Import-Export, Inc.",  portant sur la conformité des motos importées et en particulier de leur système d'éclairage, avec la réglementation US.

Geo. Byers Sons, Inc. v. East Europe Import Export, 488 F. Supp. 574, 578 (D. Md. 1980) (“The Byers people viewed samples of the motorcycles in New York, and continued negotiations with Ross and Berenson in Columbus early in 1974. Throughout the negotiations, Ross assured Byers that the brakes, exhaust systems and tires on the sample motorcycles complied with federal safety standards, but that the lights were not in compliance. He further stated that this problem had been solved by his purchase of Lucas lighting systems in Great Britain, and that future motorcycles would arrive equipped with suitable lights. Le conflit a été résolu par la suite en faisant installer dans l'usine MZ des éclairages Lucas (GB) sur les motos destinées à l'exportation aux USA.
